As a result of The Motor Car Act 1903, which came into force on 1 January 1904,
all vehicles were requiredto be registered with the authorities,
and to display number plates. The act was passed so that vehicles
could be easily traced in the event of an accident or contravention
of the law. Car plates are rectangular or square in shape, with
the exact dimensions of the plate and its lettering laid down
in law.
Since they came into being the government has issued many different
combinations of letters and numbers. This means that there are
many choices of numberplates which can be transferred to your
car, at very reasonable prices.
A fairly ordinary family hatchback or company car can be quickly
transformed into the focal point for a family conversation.
Remember the last time you were all sitting in a traffic jam
and noticed something different about the Ford Focus in front?
You couldn’t quite see it at first (you were too busy
concentrating on the road!) but then realised that the plates
spelt out a name or word or just looked special due to a nice
looking number such as 555 or 321. That vehicle, be it a Skoda
or snazzy little Mazda MX5 suddenly had a personality all of
its own. No longer are such statements of personality the preserve
of the rich and/or famous! No matter what car you drive or if
your budget will only stretch into hundreds rather than thousands
of pounds, you can make your car a head turner in no time at
all.
